Since I started sharing my work on social media, I’ve gotten a lot of requests for tutorials and tips. As someone who practically rejected my own art education at a community college, I was hesitant to start teaching. Still, I realized that I can’t be the only one who doesn’t thrive in an academic setting. I want art to stem from passion, joy, and expression - not deadlines, degrees, and performance anxiety. This is why I am passionate about these more unconventional methods, where you’ll be able to learn at your own pace, from your own home, and with the freedom to take, redo, or skip a lesson whenever you want.

Hi! My name is Agnes Hjalmarsson, and I’m a Swedish oil painter and content creator!
My work dives into themes of identity, culture, and relationships, often pulling from my own life. After briefly studying fine art at a community college I realised that the academic route wasn’t for me so for the last two years I’ve been continuing my journey as a self taught artist. Being a full-time, self-employed artist has been a rewarding and constantly unexpected experience but I wouldn’t change it for the world. From my cozy kitchen studio, I get to explore a variety of projects, share my process with my followers on Instagram and YouTube, and build a community of like minded artists.
I believe portraiture is a love language, a way to celebrate and honor the people that shape our lives. To share this with you, I’ve created a course where I’ll guide you through my process, from start to finish and provide you with general tips and insights I’ve learnt along the way. Whether you're a beginner or experienced artist, I’m excited to teach you how I bring my portraits to life and, hopefully, inspire you to capture the people in your own life.
COURSE CONTENT
The course will consist of 6 modules, each surrounding one stage of the painting process from drawing, using underpainting to capturing a person with oils.
With 5 hours of demonstrations, tips and lessons in materials, color theory, reference photos and so much more, I guarantee that there will be something for everybody! I’ve constructed it in a way so that any artist, regardless of skill level can learn something - from the starting lessons covering the very basics of mixing paint and painting simple shapes to the more advanced aspects like finding somebody’s likeness. Each module will also end with 1-2 optional homework assignments, practicing everything that was covered in the lessons.
For my students I’ve also added a bunch of bonus content, including free to use reference photos, fun challenges, fun videos of me teaching my fiance how to paint for the first time as well as 10+ timelapses and real time process videos of my most celebrated artworks.

We will look together at the materials, basic techniques, and knowledge needed to begin. The course will also cover everything practical like safety precautions and how to clean up oil paint.
Lessons & Excercises
Theory is important, but what makes you learn the fastest is practice! I have put together a PDF of beginner friendly excercises to help you. At the end of each module you'll also get a homework assignment demonstrated by me!
