WHAT MY STUDENTS THINK ABOUT THE COURSE:

As someone who's always loved portraiture but never felt confident in my abilities, Agnes' course was a game-changer. Her approach is so personal and approachable, and I learned so much about not just technique, but how to infuse emotion into my work. I highly recommend it!

- Emma

I just finished my first oil painting after taking an online class from agneshjalart and I’m obsessed! If you’ve ever wanted to learn oil painting, I can’t recommend her class enough. I’m so happy with how this piece turned out.

I’ve taken several art courses, but this one stands out. Agnes really breaks down the steps and explains everything in such a clear and relatable way. The focus on capturing real emotion in a portrait was eye-opening and has completely changed how I approach my own paintings.

Hello! I am Agnes

My name is Agnes Hjalmarsson and I'm a Swedish oil painter and content creator. My work explores themes of identity, culture, and belonging, often drawing from my own mixed heritage and personal experiences.

After a short time in fine art school, I realized the academic path wasn’t for me. So for the past few years, I’ve been carving out my own way as a self-taught, full-time artist, documenting the process on Instagram and YouTube, and building a community of artists who care deeply about using art to say something real.

Portraiture as a Mirror is a fun course and workshop designed to push you as an artist, both in terms of technical skill and creative expression. I'll be using self-portraiture as a basis, but you can also complete the course by painting another person.

We’ll also explore how artists throughout history have used portraiture to express a range of emotions, from vulnerability and identity to politics and play. With different modules covering a bit of art history, hands-on exercises, and time to create, with prompts designed to help you develop the meaning behind your pieces.

Whether you’re looking to improve your technical skill or reconnect with yourself creatively, I hope this course offers a space to explore and create something that feels like you.
